Winds of change!

Sustainability and circularity: using wind power to make wind turbine installation vessels for future offshore wind parks.
Industeel was proud to participate in the steel cutting ceremony for the wind turbine installation vessel (WTIV), “Wind Apex”, organized by Yantai Tiezhongbao Steel Processing Co Ltd in Shandong Province, People’s Republic of China. This WTIV will be the first built using steel racks made from Industeel’s XCarb® recycled and renewably produced heavy plates in 210mm thickness, manufactured at Industeel France’s heavy plate mill in Chateauneuf. Made with high levels of recycled scrap and using Guarantees of Origin for wind-generated electricity, the use of the electric arc furnace guarantees a significant carbon footprint reduction compared with conventional blast furnace steelmaking.

This event was also the occasion for all four parties to cement their commitment to sustainability by engaging in further carbon footprint reduction across the whole chain, so, that Cadeler’s wind turbine installation vessels, essential for the development of major offshore wind farms, can have the lowest carbon footprint possible.
