COVID-19 Impact Statement, March 27 th
2020-03-27

« Dear Customer,

Europe is now at the epicentre of COVID-19 pandemic, with almost all European countries recording growing numbers of infections. We are operating at a time of unprecedented disruption and change around the world as governments in all the countries continue to tackle public health emergencies due to the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak.
In the last couple of days drastic emergency measures have been taken by the governments in Europe and mainly in Italy.

The health and safety of our people remains our top priority and we are fully engaging with our employees. Our leadership teams in our mills are focused on the actions we need to take to protect the health and wellbeing of our employees, whilst working with our customers and suppliers to try to minimize the impact on our operations

In terms of our operations, we have the dual challenge of managing the plants during a time when some employees are sick or cannot travel to work and when some of our customers are suspending their operations.
Of late, the absenteeism due to sickness or self-isolation by our subcontractors and key industrial staff has reduced the available manpower sometimes below the critical minimum to run the operations safely.

However, our business continuity plans have been prepared collaboratively with the union and, after a short break of four days, we are starting up our mills again step by step:

  • Industeel France has started up partially the 23 th March (around 35% of activity).
  • Industeel Belgium has started up partially the 26 th March (around 10% of activity).

We have maximized homeworking wherever possible, our sales, Supply Chain, Customer Services, methods, financial teams are available and online.

And for those who must work in our plants, we are ensuring that the resources needed (supplies of masks, sanitizing gel and cleaning materials) are send to where they are needed, we have also put in place rigorous risk analysis and implement stringent health and safety conditions in terms of hygiene, cleaning and self-distancing.

Currently, we are continuing delivery of goods from our external logistics platform.

Loading of goods is possible from our logistic platforms as long as the logistic companies comply to the following procedures:
a) limit the disembarkation of drivers from their trucks. Drivers must be equipped with hand protection gloves and masks for mouth and nose;
b) if driver needs to disembark from truck for loading/offloading, he must also comply with the two meters safety distance between people;

  1. c) wherever possible, submit transport deliverables via IT transmission.

Almost certainly your purchase orders have been impacted, you will be informed of their status during this week by eServices and new delivery dates will also be shared by eServices with you

Industeel is committed to continuing our efforts to ensure everybody’s safety and wellbeing.

We will keep you appraised on a regular basis of our working condition.

Best regards »
